Paul Sugarbaker, MD, FACS, FRCS is Director, Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program, Washington Cancer Institute. Dr. Sugarbaker is a mentor, investigator, and has lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally, earning numerous awards and citations. He is best known for his expertise in gastrointestinal oncology and colorectal cancer surgery and in rare diseases such as pseudomyxoma peritonei, peritoneal mesothelioma, abdominal sarcomas, and peritoneal carcinomatosis.

Dr. Sugarbaker has pioneered specialty treatment procedures such as cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy. His current project involves an attempt to optimize the HIPEC treatment. This is to reduce the number of treatment failures after cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC. He has published more than 850 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and in textbooks. The textbook on sarcoma surgery has been translated into 5 languages.
 

Laura Lambert, M.D., is an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center. More than 90% of Dr. Lambert’s clinical practice and research is dedicated to PMP and related diseases. Dr. Lambert established the clinical and translational research HIPEC program at UMass Memorial Medical Center, and is dedicated to providing education to clinicians about proper diagnosis and treatment options for PMP as well as conducting her own research on the disease. She is also actively engaged with patients and their families in trying to increase awareness and understanding of PMP.


Dr. Jesus Esquivel, FACS is the Director of The Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He specializes in combining Cytoreductive Surgery with Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy in the management of gastrointestinal tumors that have disseminated throughout the abdominal cavity. His clinical research is oriented at minimally invasive treatment of pseudomyxoma peritonei and at identifying selection criteria for cytoreduction and HIPEC in patients with colorectal cancer. Dr. Esquivel founded the American Society of Peritoneal Surface Malignancies (ASPSM) that now has more than 100 members from 13 countries.


Dr. Armando Sardi, MD, FACS, internationally renowned surgical oncologist, serves as the director of The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy as well as the director of the Institute’s Surgical Oncology Division.

He is widely regarded for his training and skills in utilizing Intraperitoneal Hyperthermic Chemotherapy (IPHC/HIPEC), an advanced technique for treating late-stage, complex cancers of the abdominal region. Dr. Sardi additionally serves as a clinical investigator for the National Cancer Institute and is committed to conducting vital research leading to breakthroughs in the aggressive management of complex cancers.

Dr. Sardi has numerous publications to his credit. He also has lectured on a national and international platform, educating and training physicians on the latest advances in the treatment of a variety of late-stage cancers.

Dr. Sardi is Board Certified in General Surgery and completed fellowship training in Surgical Oncology at Ohio State University Hospital, where he received a research grant from the American Cancer Society. He received his medical degree from Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia. Dr. Sardi was named by Baltimore Magazine a 2009 "Top Doctor" in the Surgical Oncology specialty.
